Untuned percussion

The bass drum, snare drum, cymbal, tambourine, triangle, gong, castanets and maracas are all untuned percussion instruments.

These instruments keep the rhythm of the orchestra’s music and also create exciting special effects.

You will often see percussionists putting down and picking up many different instruments in just one piece of music.

The longest recorded drum roll by an individual is 8 hours 1 minute 17 seconds by Christopher Anthony from America in 2012.
