Second Violins

The violins of the orchestra are divided into two groups, known as ‘first violins’ and ‘second violins’. Second violins support the first violins by playing a lower part and providing the harmony and rhythm that brings the music to life.

It’s very important for the two large violin sections to work together to blend their sounds. There are more violins than any other instrument in the orchestra, creating a beautiful singing tone to the overall sound of the orchestra.
