Section Violas@2X

Violas

The viola is a member of the string family. It looks very similar to a violin but it’s bigger, so it makes a richer and lower sound.

The violas play the harmony line, which supports the melody. The sound of the viola section sits between the high sounds of the violins and the low sounds of the double basses. Violas don’t often play melodies in the orchestra, but they can.
