Brass instruments make bright and shiny sounds. They create exciting musical climaxes, triumphant fanfares and dramatic moments.
The brass section of an orchestra includes trumpets, French horns, trombones and a tuba. All brass instruments are made from metal tubes. They have a mouthpiece the player blows through to create a buzz. This is amplified through the tubes to create a bright, brassy sound.
The odd-one-out in the brass section is the French horn. It’s made of brass, but its warm, mellow sound means it blends well with the woodwinds.
